May: Mental Health Minute

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Let’s take a minute…just a minute. It’s time to check in with ourselves and with our colleagues in public safety. If you recognize that you’re more stressed and anxious than usual, you are not alone!

Firefighter, Paramedic and Patrol Officer all made the list for most stressful jobs according to US News & World Report. So let’s take a minute…

A MINUTE - To check on a colleague.
Whether it’s on an incident scene, or shortly after in a de-brief, we encourage you to look around and take time to see who might need extra support.

A MINUTE - To learn a breathing technique.
Find a moment to practice breathing when you’re not in an emergency situation. This strategy can calm you and allow you to focus. We suggest guided box breathing to start.

A MINUTE - To improve ourselves.
When our instructors come to your department we encourage you to focus on incremental improvement. Our new wellness classes are focused on things you can do at work and at home to better cope with the mental and physical stresses of the job.

We’re rolling out two new courses for public safety professionals during the month of May. Please apply online if you’d like to host a course at your facility. Host agencies receive free registrations.

  • New! De-Escalation & Implicit Bias Awareness

  • New! Building a Successful Officer Wellness Program

  • New! Internal Communications in Public Safety
